HP TouchPad liquidation - Now available for $99 The Real Reason

The webOS was in its first proper foray outside of a phone to compete in the vicious tablet space. Now with liquidation of HP TouchPad there comes a question of rethinking about the webOS.
HP’s works like nothing else webOS model TouchPad is now under liquidation process. The TouchPad, a 9.7-inch tablet from HP was opened with $499.99 for the 16GB model and $599.99 for 32GB. Does this plus-sized Palm really have what it takes to stand out at that price point? But now with HP’s liquidation of TouchPad the 16GB and 32GB will be available for $99 and $149 respectively.

Reaons for the HP's liquidation order

In the Post-PC world out of ten people five people are using laptops of which four are Macbooks, four will be using tablets from Apple, one will using smart phone or palm, and the remaining one will be using desktop. HP was not only killing off their TouchPad and Pre webOS-based products, but is also trying to spin-off their largest PC business world. HP’s statements of earnings further reaffirmed the idea of the Post-PC world.

Consumers are changing the way they use their PC and the tablet effect has conquered the market. The real reason for the liquidation of TouchPad is that the sales of the TouchPad are not meeting expectations of HP. According to HP CEO Leo Apotheker “The velocity of change in the personal device marketplace continues to increase as the competitive landscape is growing increasingly more complex especially around the personal computing arena,” he continued that the “the tablet effect is real”. The iPad effect in the market is the reason for the decrease in the sales of HP.

It sounds like a panic move that the largest PC-maker in the world is exiting the tablet space. If we think for a second it is crazy but maybe it’s not. While HP may be the worldwide leader in PC sales with huge revenues, their actual profit from those sales has already been far exceeded by Apple. The HP is perhaps reading it a bit early by clear.

The Post-PC device is about the combination of hardware and software all built and integrated by one company. Most noteworthy about HP is that with the Palm/webOS purchase they had both the vision and resources to possibly compete with Apple. Subsequently the webOS integration across their entire product line as well as the unveiling of the TouchPad seemed to reaffirm this. But something serious happened on the way to the battle with Apple. HP decided to double down their dependency on webOS.

HP announces that they’re discontinuing all their webOS devices, and they’ve already issued a liquidation order. Best Buy, Future Shop, The Source, London Drugs, and Staples will be selling the 16GB TouchPad for $99, and the 32GB version for $149 starting 20-Aug-2011. Now this fire sale will probably happen right away it unclear is about the 64GB version’s fate.

Best thing is to call your local gadget shop and check for stock and pricing, then run out and get yours before they’re gone.
